Fans of the beloved sitcom “Friends” have the opportunity to own a piece of television history. Original scripts from the show, which ran from the late ’90s to the early 2000s, have been discovered and will be auctioned off. The scripts were found inside a former staff member’s bedside table by a retired man who wishes to remain anonymous. He stumbled upon them while cleaning out his home in preparation for a move. Initially, he considered throwing them away but decided to have them evaluated at Hansons Auctioneers, a renowned auction house in the U.K.
Interestingly, the man confesses that he is not a big fan of the show. He only recently watched the episodes that correspond to the scripts he found. These episodes, titled “The One with Ross’s Wedding Part I” and “The One with Ross’s Wedding Part II,” contain memorable moments such as Ross accidentally saying the wrong name at the altar and the revelation of Chandler and Monica’s relationship. He discovered the scripts in a bin a few weeks after filming and kept them in his office drawer until he left the company. The box containing the scripts ended up in a bedside drawer for 25 years.
The scripts will now go up for auction on January 12, 2024. The head of operations at Hansons Auctioneers expressed amazement at the discovery, explaining that the cast and crew were instructed to destroy their copies to prevent leaks. However, these two scripts slipped through the cracks. The estimated minimum price for the scripts is $650, but they could fetch a much higher price. The auction also includes additional items related to the show, such as a standby ticket, DVDs, a keyring, and a hoodie. Bidding can be done online or in person at Hanson Ross in Royston, England.
